Dear Parents,

            I am delighted that your child is in my physical education class this 2018-2019 School Year.  Physical Education programs are needed to increase student’s health-related fitness, cognitive development, physical competence, self-responsibility and enjoyment of lifetime physical activity.   To maximize student’s enjoyment and lifetime benefits of physical education at United Middle School, it is important that students and parents take notice of the following:

Physical Education Class Rules:

  1. Follow Directions
  2. Be seated in your spot before the tardy bell rings
  3. Bring all materials to class. Attire = comfortable T-shirt, shorts, tennis shoes
  4. Dress out and Participate
  5. Food, candy, drinks, and gum are not permitted in the Gym
  6. Horseplay and profanity will not be tolerated

Positive Recognition:

  1. Verbal Praise
  2. Positive phone call to parents
  3. Class choice of activity
  4. Recognition of top students each six weeks

Consequences:

     1st   consequence:  Verbal warning

     2nd  consequence:  Out of activity for rest of class/student-teacher conference

     3rd  consequence:   Team notified/parent call or conference

     4th  consequence:   Referral to Admin/Principal-student-parent conference

Physical Activities and Required State Mandated Fitness Gram:

Psychomotor Development: Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis, Soccer, Track, Softball...

Cognitive Development: History of Sports; Study of Skeletal and Muscular Systems

Physical Education Grading System:

 Daily Dress Out         20%                Fall Project:       Human Skeletal System

 Daily Participation      50%                Spring Project:  Human Muscular System

 Six Weeks Tests        30%                (Details for both projects will be sent home)

                  Total          100%

At the beginning of every Six Weeks, the student will start with a 100 average. Five points will be deducted for not dressing out, not participating and unexcused absences. Parents will be called after the (3rd) time a student does not dress out.
