To the Proud Parents/Guardians of a UMS Student:

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!

The science teachers are anticipating a highly productive and successful year and we look forward to working with your child. This will be done through hands – on - activities, lectures, videos, power point presentations, tests, quizzes and projects. Throughout the academic year, we will be covering the four STAAR Science objectives. These can be found in detail at the Texas Educational Agency at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/

Assignments: Each child will be required to work their class and lab assignments in their SCIENCE JOURNALS. Other daily assignments will come from other teacher resources like workbooks, etc.

Absences/Tardies: Tardies and absences will be taken seriously as per school policy. 4 TARDIES = 1 UNEXCUSED ABSENCE Make-up work will be given for excused absences as per UMS grading guidelines. Progress Reports: Progress notices will be sent home/or mailed at the end of every 3rd week.

Tutorials: All science teachers will be available for additional help in homework and reinforcement of the concepts afterschool from 3:30 to 4:00pm.

Grading Policy: Late work will be accepted from students with an EXCUSED ABSENCE up to 3 days after absence without penalty. A 10 point penalty will be taken after work is a day late for students who simply did not turn in their work. Work will NOT be accepted on the fourth day. ABSOLUTELY NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.

REMIND: As communication is essential for your child’s success, questions or conference requests may be sent via email at agblanco@uisd.net or via school phone at 473-7381. Our website is a wonderful resource and your child will be instructed on how to access the teacher’s web sites for this information and other educational resources. I encourage all the parents to also get on my Remind system for weekly text reminders about upcoming tests, assignments and homework. **See attachment for instructions on how to join my class.
